OpenSUSE 11.3 KDE Live CD (Build0447) doesn't boot on Acer 6935G, screen is corrupted.
I see screen like a rainbow during boot process.
Good news: I finally hear sound when KDE is booted.
But screen remains corrupted, nothing is visible.
Had to hang system off.

Tried than to boot using VESA screen instead of default video settings.
Same effect.

System CPU: Intel
Graphics: NVIDIA 9600GT

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot for OpenSUSE 11.3 KDE4 i686 Live CD
2. Start installation
3. Screen would be corrupted
Actual Results:
Screen is corrupted, system is unusable and no way to change video settings to another driver.

Expected Results:

System should be in working conditions, or setup manager should offer divverent video driver/settings if it doesn't work with default driver.

Hardware info - from OpenSUSE 11.2

Just loaded OpenSUSE 11.2 on this system (Acer 5935G notebook) and extracted Hardware Information via YaST.
Hope information would be useful, as 11.2 works and 11.3 MS2 doesn't

I guess problem is caused by graphics driver in 11.3 for this video chipset:

  144: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_10de_649'
  linux.hotplug_type = 2 (0x2)

Xorg.0.log file from OpenSUSE 11.3 MS3

Downloaded OpenSUSE 11.3 MS3 and tried again.
"rainbow" screen disappeared, but I get black screen in graphics mode instead.
No menu, panel or windows.
System doesn't work.

Hopefully, I was able to switch to console mode.
Here is Xorg.0.log file from LiveCD.

Pls note that default resolution (1920x1080) was identified correctly.

Hardware Info from YAST/OpenSUSE 11.3 MS3

It is slightly different from hardware-info/OpenSUSE 11.2
which I sent before.
Comment 4 Refilwe Seete 2010-03-08 16:26:14 UTC
Can confirm this behaviour on Nvidia 8400M hardware. Although the black screen mentioned by Vadim does show the cursor. The cursor does respond to appropriate content as well (changing to a hand with extended index finger when over the options on the bottom of the openSUSE/KDE4 first-raun welcome screen). Unfortunately the content is not visible.

My problem is identical.

Always when starting KDE Live CD 11.3 Milestone3 (either i386 and x64).

Tried to get help form opensuse froum - but finally nobody could help.

Problem with Dell inspiron 530 (original "Ubuntu 7.04 Desktop PC") and NVIDIA 8300GS.

All older suses' work perfectly at least since 10.0

I can confirm that problem is fixed in OpenSUSE 11.3 Milestone4.
System boots, screen looks like expected.

nv driver does not have any 3D support.
Comment 10 Vadim Plessky 2010-03-26 10:48:52 UTC
I know that 'nv' driver is limited.
But it's good to see that system boots and works.

What are your plans for Nouveau driver in OpenSUSE 11.3?
Comment 11 Stefan Dirsch 2010-03-26 11:12:47 UTC
We plan to use the nouveau driver by default on openSUSE 11.3 - beginning with M5.
Comment 12 Vadim Plessky 2010-04-14 20:19:10 UTC
I can confirm that this system (Acer 6935) work with NOUVEAU driver in OpenSUSE 11.3 Milestone 5.
