Video showing the flickering during install.

During installation of M6 from x64 DVD on machine described by SMOLT profile
<http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_2c303e01-12a6-44f6-8128-f8df1d7ce080>), the screen flickers and sometimes get corrupted and some text is unreadable.

I will attach one or two videos where the flickering and errors are shown. Viewable with realplayer, can't help it. Refresh rate does not match that of the laptop display, so that not all of the flickering in their annoying magnificence can be reproduced.

Hmm. During installation fbdev driver is still running. So in that case intel driver can't be the problem.

Might be a monitor problem.

Absolutely not! I only have those symptoms with M6. This laptop has no display problems. 11.2 is fine, installation of 12.3 M5 was fine, installed M6 without compiz is fine.

During the install the display flicked in accordance with my actions moving the mouse or selecting certain actions.

No sir, there are no problems with the hardware. You can not close this as worksforme that easily.

KMS was enabled by default until M7, although not used during installation. That has been fixed with RC1.

Reopening, because GM still shows the symptoms.

I tried the game "extreme-tuxracer", the screen flickers so much as to be unusable. I started it from a terminal, and I see a lot of messages like this:

Couldn't reference dri2 back buffer handle 0x00000004: No such file or directory
Couldn't reference dri2 back buffer handle 0x00000004: No such file or directory
Couldn't reference dri2 back buffer handle 0x00000004: No such file or directory

And, glxgears renders 62 FPS, both in small window or full screen.

In the same machine, with 11.2 installed, glxgears runs at 400 FPS on a window, and about 62 maximized. And etracer runs without a flicker.

Those two apps use advanced video features, and work much worse in 11.3 than in 11.2 - as I feared.

Thus, Intel video continues to be broken in linux.

Neither tuxracer nor glxgears are running during installation. Again, we use fbdev during installation. This bug was about flickering due to intel driver usage during installation. This has been fixed with RC1.

Ok, I'll open a new report. I had both problems during the initial install and later usage. I only reported the first one here. The installation one was solved, the second one remains.
