Bugzilla – Bug 674745
KDEInit cann't launch applications from root's Dolphin when it runs under a user session.
Last modified: 2011-02-24 16:44:33 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; es-ES; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13 openSuSE 11.2 x86_64 Final+Updates It is unusual that I use the root account, and I prefer to work under Konsole than under Dolphin when I need to perform certain root privileged task, so I did not realized till now the following: When root's Dolphin runs under a user session, is almost unusable, but just to browser the directory tree or to make some basic file operations, such as copy, move, soft-link, because from it can not be launched Konsole (Tools > Terminal), or any command; open any file neither. For instance, when clicked a text file, KDE complaints: "KDEInit cann't launch: <</usr/bin/kwrite>>." Contextual menu operations, such as compress, &c., do not work neither. Might you suggest me what else do you need (if any) to document this issue? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.log in as user 2.launch Dolphin (superuser) 3.tray to open any document inside it, or launch Konsole, or compress, &c. Actual Results: Dolphin is almost unusable, but just to browser the directory tree or to make some basic file operations, such as copy, move, soft-link. From it can not be launched Konsole (Tools > Terminal), or any command; to open any file neither, to compress, &c. Expected Results: Dolphin (as root under user login) be able to launch Konsole, Kwrite, &c., and compress, &c.
Yeah because there is no dbus running for the root user *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 514056 ***
