These are the known issues that should be fixed in the first autofs update on
openSUSE 12.1.

It does not appear that rpcbind is started automatically by autofs, nor does rpcbind seem to be listed in the "Requires" section of the RPM.  I had to enable the rpcbind service by hand in 12.1 on an x86_64 system to get autofs to work properly.

David, you're right. There's room for improvement on this and I just opened bug #742630 to discuss the case.
