After installing yesterdays updates (still 13.1 Beta 1, snapshot on server was updated), using KDE respectively the whole system is nearly impossible. It takes several minutes for KDM to show up, logging in as a user takes about 20 minutes. The responsiveness of the system was fine with the packages shipped with the inital release of 13.1B1.

/var/log/messages ist filled with entries like:

2013-09-30T11:58:16.684687+02:00 heimdall dbus[561]: [system] Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1': timed out

see attachment for more.

Reproducible: Always

DBus regression, fix is committed in O:F and 13.1.

Unpleasantly this issue has not yet been resolved to my full satisfaction with RC1. While the system hangs at startup as documented in Bug 845287 are resolved now I still discover temporary system hangs from time to time when launching applications like konsole or konqueror. If it hangs then all applications started recently will hang for some minutes; I usually continue my work at the text terminals ttyX until at some point in time the applications become launched in deed. Othertimes applications start instantaneously without any hang.

... and from time to time it also hangs indefinitely when creating an attachemen
t either with konqueror or with firefox; last time I had to boot with eComstatio
n just to post you my attachements for all these reports (whether this issue is
linked or not it just happens non reproducibly from time to time)

Still worse than with original RC1 after the latest updates to kdebase4-workspace|4.11.2-4.1|i586.
Comment 8 Elmar Stellnberger 2013-10-29 13:52:47 UTC
please approach a fix for RC2!
As bad as things are now RC1 can hardly be used at all.
(I have stopped testing on it after an Xorg update additionally caused gvim to hang which is not a KDE program; (if you don`t have a fix please default one time to the last working KDE and Xorg).
Comment 9 Forgotten User DV81ZEWZkN 2013-10-30 19:06:39 UTC
Elmar, please open a new report with the logs, as the issue you now have, at least according to logs, has nothing to do with the original problem - which is resolved.
Comment 10 Elmar Stellnberger 2013-11-04 12:38:16 UTC
Yes, I am going to file a new bug for the stall-on-open-dialog bug (originally wanted to paste this at Bug 845287 but then clicked once further by accident). It has truely differently observable behaviour.
Comment 11 Elmar Stellnberger 2013-11-04 12:40:25 UTC
However as this was fixed for RC1 we now have a true regression of this issue concerning the updates for RC2 (2013-04-11). KDE-plasma panel does not start for a very long time the screen staying black. note: The problem may already persist since several updates.
Comment 12 Elmar Stellnberger 2013-11-12 17:20:48 UTC
Note that without re-fixing this bug openSUSE 13.1 will hardly be usable; and a final release is pending. Please do not forget about it.
Comment 13 Elmar Stellnberger 2013-11-14 10:41:47 UTC
Diverse issues; one simple reason: the DBUS_SYSTEM_BUS_ADDRESS environment
variable was not set correctly.

No, it's not a dup. As i said here already, *this is a different issue*, please don't reopen, mark, etc bug status at will.
