Bugzilla – Bug 962988
VUL-1: CVE-2015-7975: ntp: nextvar() missing length check in ntpq
Last modified: 2016-08-18 15:52:30 UTC
http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Main/NtpBug2937 Summary: ntpq may call nextvar() which executes a memcpy() into the name buffer without a proper length check against its maximum length of 256 bytes. Note well that we're taking about ntpq here. The usual worst-case effect of this vulnerability is that the specific instance of ntpq will crash and the person or process that did this will have stopped themselves. References: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1300267 http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2015-7975 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-7975
(In reply to Johannes Segitz from comment #0) Don't agree with the summary here. ntpq might construct input from untrusted sources, but since that is unlikely we treat it as VUL-1
