Description Mikhail Kasimov 2017-05-10 18:41:04 UTC
Ref: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2017-8890
====================================================
Description

The inet_csk_clone_lock function in net/ipv4/inet_connection_sock.c in the Linux kernel through 4.10.15 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (double free) or possibly have unspecified other impact by leveraging use of the accept system call.

Comment 1 Michal Kubeček 2017-05-12 05:58:45 UTC
Looks like the problem exists at least since 2.6.16 so that all our maintained
branches need the fix.
Comment 2 Marcus Meissner 2017-05-12 09:13:46 UTC
how easy is this exploitable?
Comment 3 Michal Kubeček 2017-05-24 07:35:39 UTC
We will need at least

657831ffc38e dccp/tcp: do not inherit mc_list from parent
83eaddab4378 ipv6/dccp: do not inherit ipv6_mc_list from parent
fdcee2cbb843 sctp: do not inherit ipv6_{mc|ac|fl}_list from parent

Second commit addresses the same issue for DCCP over IPv6 and third commit
for SCTP over IPv6. Commit message of 657831ffc38e also mentions

8b485ce69876 tcp: do not inherit fastopen_req from parent

which addresses similar problem found by syzkaller. This one is already in
4.4.68 (SLE12-SP2) and 4.11.1 (stable) but not in older branches.
Comment 4 Michal Kubeček 2017-05-24 09:11:17 UTC
(In reply to Michal Kubeček from comment #3)
> 83eaddab4378 ipv6/dccp: do not inherit ipv6_mc_list from parent

CVE-2017-9076 / bsc#1039885 and CVE-2017-9077 / bsc#1040069

> fdcee2cbb843 sctp: do not inherit ipv6_{mc|ac|fl}_list from parent

CVE-2017-9075 / bsc#1039883

This one doesn't seem to have a CVE id assigned (or at least not one with
open bug in our bugzilla).
Comment 5 Michal Kubeček 2017-05-25 10:59:24 UTC
The fix is now present in or submitted to (*) all maintained branches:

  stable cedfd44f9c88
  SLE12-SP2 10ad0c779977
  cve/linux-3.12 621d609e6011 *
  cve/linux-3.0 5c9863730067 *
  cve/linux-2.6.32 e5d5bc0d1234
  cve/linux-2.6.16 2df97d951fc9 *

I also backported commit 8b485ce69876 to cve/linux-3.12; stable and SLE12-SP2
already have it via 4.11.1 and 4.4.68 respectively, older branches do not need
it as TCP fast open was only added in v3.6-rc1.

Reassigning back to the security team.

Security team, we've just received a number of customer's inquiries upon this vulnerability since it has an extremely high CVE score and raised their critical attention on this.

From the context of this bug, I saw we've submited fixes and source for opensuse, how did we do for SLES as planned in our public CVE statement:

Will the fix for this CVE included/planned for next maintenance update of above SLES versions?
Comment 8 Marcus Meissner 2017-06-27 06:21:56 UTC
yes, the fix will be included in the next maintenance releases. Due to the stack gap issue we pushed back this release a bit, but it will be coming soonish
