Bugzilla – Bug 1163985
VUL-1: CVE-2020-1720: postgresql94,postgresql96,postgresql,postgresql10: postgresql: ALTER ... DEPENDS ON EXTENSION is missing authorization checks
Last modified: 2020-08-17 16:18:10 UTC
CVE-2020-1720 The ALTER ... DEPENDS ON EXTENSION sub-commands do not perform authorization checks. If one of the following prerequisites holds, an unprivileged user can exploit this to drop any function, procedure, materialized view, index, or trigger. The attack is possible if an administrator has installed an extension that unprivileged users can CREATE. The attack is also possible if an extension owner issues DROP EXTENSION predictably or can be convinced to issue DROP EXTENSION. Tracked as affected the following codestreams: postgresql10: SLE11-SP1,SLE12,SLE15,SLE15-SP1, postgresql96: SLE12 postgresql94: SLE11-SP1,SLE12 postgresql: Leap 15.1 (inherited from SLE) and Factory (version 12) FIXED versions: 12.2, 11.7, 10.12, 9.6.17, 9.5.21, and 9.4.26 Link to the advisory at [1] [1] https://www.postgresql.org/about/news/2011/
According to upstream release announcements and release notes only versions from 9.6 onwards are affected, but 9.4 is not. But we might want to update 9.4 to the latest version anyway and notify customers that this will be the last update for 9.4 and they should upgrade to a newer version ASAP. The "postgresql" package is also not affected as it is only an infrastructure package that does not contain any actual PosgtgreSQL code.
