Description Hu 2022-08-30 07:38:49 UTC
rh#1901728

A vulnerability was found in Kernel, where accessing a deallocated instance in printer_ioctl() printer_ioctl() tries to access of a printer_dev instance. However, Use-after-free arises because it had been freed by gprinter_free().

Upstream patch:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=e8d5f92b8d30bb4ade76494490c3c065e12411b1

Comment 1 Hu 2022-08-30 07:39:24 UTC
Fixing commit: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/e8d5f92b8d30bb4ade76494490c3c065e12411b1

Not affected (already contains fix):
- cve/linux-5.3
- SLE15-SP4
- SLE15-SP3
- SLE12-SP5
- stable

I think these could be affected, as the commit that introduces the printer gadget driver [0] looks similar at least for me:
- cve/linux-3.0
- cve/linux-4.4
- cve/linux-4.12
They did a lot of refactoring and moving around in between, so I am not sure. What do you think?

Thanks a lot!

Comment 2 Takashi Iwai 2022-08-30 08:35:35 UTC
CONFIG_USB_GADGET is disabled on older releases (it's been enabled since Leap 15.2, so at most cve/linux-5.3); i.e. all branches are either already fixed or unaffected.

Note that SLE12-SP5 branch already contains the fix, but the config is disabled, so it's actually no-op.

I updated the patch reference in cve/linux-5.3 branch.

Reassigned back to security team.
Comment 3 Hu 2022-08-30 08:53:23 UTC
Thanks for clarifying! Closing.
